Philosophy
Ars musica – the music store, was founded in 2003 by Roland Fritsch, the current owner. It all started with a small original cell of just over 20 square meters, in which old musical instruments were processed and restored in order to return them to their original purpose: To produce beautiful, interesting, strange, mystical and fascinating sounds that delight the ears and heart and stimulate the human synapses to creative processes. The world of sounds, noises and tones is so diverse that it was decided from the outset not to specialize.
Where the music plays...
In Roland Fritsch’s now well-established music store, both historical sound generators and modern musical instruments can be found side by side, inspiring customers to embark on new musical explorations. “You have to have done everything once” is the long-standing motto of Roland Fritsch, who has acquired rudimentary skills on the double bass, ukulele, guitar, didgeridoo, trumpet and alphorn in a few workshops.

2500 instruments and 5000 notes
After almost 20 years of self-employment in the music trade, Roland Fritsch was certified as an expert for musical instruments of all kinds in 2018 and advises on tricky questions about the age, origin, value and condition of historical and vintage musical instruments. In addition to the 3,000 or so musical instruments and over 30,000 pieces of sheet music that he presents to his customers in his stores in Munich Sendling and Wallersdorf, he is passionate about collecting unusual sound generators and musical instruments, which he then brings back to life in sound installations.
The dream of a museum
As early as 2012, he incorporated some of his sound ideas into the soundlab. 1 at the Munich City Museum and still dreams of having his own interactive music museum. “Who has a lock for me? I’ll make it ring.” However, his dream has now come true in Lower Bavaria, where he has reserved three rooms on the second floor of his new store for a historic violin-making workshop, a small museum for hand-pulled instruments and a showroom for musical instruments from around 1800 onwards. Visitors are welcome by appointment and will be guided through the exhibition by the owner.
